Heavy solid metal.- Takes quite a bit of force to change the elevation / angle- Very easy to turn the platter – makes clicky noises but no detents- May be slightly too short top plate if you have a larger laptopSturdiness: This is great if you need a stand to stay on your desk. It’s sturdy and heavy so not super portable. It holds it’s position really well. It shakes less than my stand alone second monitor does on it’s base. It has grippy rubber feet on the bottom to keep it in place. It won’t move unless you want it to move. I can easily lean both arms against the laptop if I need to use the trackpad or type on the laptop keyboard and it doesn’t slip downward.Adjustability: The elevation / Angle tension is very stiff. You really need to take the laptop off, then pull / push quite hard to get it to change position. This is great because once you have it where you like it, it doesn’t move. The swivel function is very easy by contrast. if you want to turn the stand you can easily do it with one hand. Good if you want to turn your screen to show someone or change the camera angle on a video conference.Size: My laptop (15.6″ screen) is just deep enough that the top plate of the stand doesn’t stretch far enough to reach the bottom bumper foot on the rear of my laptop. This caused the stand to lay flat against the row of intake vents sealing them off. I just added a couple of felt furniture leg glides I had handy to the top corners of the plate to lift the laptop bottom up a bit and it works fine. It will be good for most chromebook or smaller Macbook size laptops. It’s probably too big for a tablet.
