The spikes that came on the Stihl MS271 I bought are small and don’t bite into trees very well. I saw this kit and thought these spikes would be an improvement.The kit comes with some nice extras- a chain catcher roller, extra nuts and screws, two nuts for the bar cover, and a couple of chain wear strips.From the photograph of the original dog spike on top of the new spike, you can see how much longer the spikes on the new one are. The new one is the same thickness as the old one too.I installed just the spike by the bar, where the original one was located. It went on with no problems. I did not install the other one because the saw did not come with two, and I didn’t think two spikes were necessary. My saw does not have a chain roller either, as this kit is meant for more than one model.There is one thing to be aware of, the new spike is longer and when setting the saw down, it will rest on the spike. If you slide the saw on a piece of cardboard, for example, the spike will dig into it.Now I need a tree to cut up.
